Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of publishing professionals attend?
The workshop is designed for magazine, book, association, non-profit and corporate publishing professionals who are responsible for the success of their organizations' content-rich Web sites. Participants generally come from companies and organizations with substantial print-based assets as well as robust Web sites. Some participants' organizations are using the Web as their only publishing platform.
Will there be hands-on computer sessions?
Yes. You will be assigned to a small group with whom you will participate in a special Web site critique session. During the session, your site's content, information architecture, design and usability will be critiqued by your colleagues working together with Web design specialists. Please note: the course is not geared for technical Web professionals, and it does not include sessions on HTML or the use of specific Web tools.
Do you need to have a certain level of technical expertise?
You need not have specific technical expertise to attend. Sessions are geared for general managers and other business professionals who are overseeing IT professionals. The focus of the Workshop is on the business/managerial, rather than technical, aspects of running a site.
What if I'm only responsible for a portion of my site?
The Workshop has been developed to give you an overview of the issues pertaining to running a content-rich website in a fast-changing environment. One of the goals of the workshop is to fill in the gaps in your understanding of best practices so that you can take on broader responsibilities for the success of your site.
